Botetourt County School Board adopts governance norms, approves teacher pay placement and routine consent items

The Botetourt County School Board on Feb. 12 unanimously adopted new governance norms and protocols and approved the teacher salary placement scale for the 2026–27 school year, while also passing a routine consent agenda that included field trips, minutes and a math textbook purchase.

Matt East moved to adopt the governance norms; Dana McCaleb seconded the motion, which carried with votes recorded in favor by Chair Anna Weddle and board members Dana McCaleb, Matt East, Tim Davidick and Jenny P. Wilson. Later, Tim Davidick moved approval of the teacher salary placement scale for 2026–27; Jenny P. Wilson seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

The board approved the consent agenda, which the minutes record as including acceptance of bills, authorization for the superintendent to fill vacancies between Feb. 12 and March 12, 2026, approval of minutes from multiple prior meetings, and a series of student field trips for Lord Botetourt High School, Reed Mountain Middle School, Central Academy and others. The consent agenda also included a purchase of math instructional materials from Mathspace Incorporated. Motions to approve the consent agenda were typically made by Tim Davidick and seconded by Matt East; each vote on consent items was recorded as unanimous.

The meeting minutes show the board moved into and out of a closed meeting earlier in the evening; afterward the board voted to uphold administration recommendations on personnel matters and on a student transfer request. Those votes were recorded as carried by the same five board members.

The board’s actions leave the district with an approved governance framework and a salary placement schedule in place for the coming school year, while routine operational approvals and contract purchases proceed under the consent agenda. The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for March 12, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
