Code enforcement told the council that the property at 168 Saint George Avenue remains in violation after years of complaints and inspections. Staff described collapsing foundation elements, interior floor failure and signs of rodent and raccoon activity and said they had given the owner multiple opportunities to present a repair plan but received no adequate response.
"We've received complaint calls from the neighbors about this house at least for the last 8 years," a city official said, describing failed footings and interior collapse and noting adjacent properties are affected by pests. Staff recommended demolition if the owner does not produce a repair plan.
The city explained the procedural steps: if the owner does not remediate, the city will advertise for demolition bids (about 45 days to procure and award), perform demolition via a contractor and then place the demolition costs on the property tax bill as a special assessment.
Neighbors and a contractor who had recently been engaged said they would inspect and assist if repairs were feasible, but staff expressed doubt about the house’s reparability and recommended demolition to protect the neighborhood. The council closed the case after hearing testimonies and staff recommendation; no formal extension was granted for that property in the hearing.
