Board proclaims Constitution Week and recognizes Free Home Elementary as one of America’s Healthiest Schools

The Cherokee County School Board on Sept. 18, 2025 adopted a proclamation honoring Constitution Week and recognized Free Home Elementary School for being named one of "America's Healthiest Schools."

Superintendent Davis and a presenter outlined how schools across the district observed Constitution Week through student activities. A board member, Susan, said teachers and students at several schools participated in Constitution-themed lessons and activities, including constitution breakouts and classroom quizzes. “Never pass up an opportunity to celebrate Constitution Week,” Susan said.

Separately, the board recognized Free Home Elementary School for earning a national healthy-schools designation from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, noting the school was honored across multiple categories including physical education, health and staff well-being. A coach, Keith Firstenberg, was introduced as the school’s representative to accept recognition.

The Chair called for a motion and the board voted to carry the proclamation; the meeting record shows the motion carried unanimously but does not include a roll-call tally. The board then moved on to the personnel agenda and other business.
