The Village of Hales Corners Committee of the Whole on April 13 voted unanimously to recommend a holiday pay proposal for the Fire Department to the Village Board.
Fire Chief B. Gardner presented the proposal and described shift staffing: typically one full-time and three part-time personnel per shift (a potential of six personnel per 24-hour period) and scenarios in which up to eight staff could be on duty. Village Administrator Sandra Kulik estimated the annual cost of the change would range from about $11,000 to $35,000, depending on how many shifts are staffed under the new arrangement. Kulik said ambulance rate adjustments would be made to reflect departmental costs and could be used to cover any overages.
Motion (Thomson, Riemer) to recommend the proposal to the Village Board passed unanimously at the committee level. The recommendation will go before the Village Board for final approval.
