TDOT to bid South Main bridge work in June; city details multimodal grant improvements

Dyersburg officials said May 4 that the Tennessee Department of Transportation plans to move forward on a multiyear bridge replacement on South Main and will put the work out to bid in June.
Mayor Perkin told aldermen TDOT Region 4 has advanced the project and will pay to relocate a sewer line so the state bridge work can proceed. "They’re gonna bid it in June," Mayor Perkin said. He said TDOT will likely replace lighting on the bridges and presented the board with a choice to replace one bridge at a time (less expensive and less disruptive to businesses) or both at once.
The mayor also said the city’s multimodal grant for South Main — previously approved and increased to reflect inflationary costs — will be bid this month and will fund improvements from Samara Bend Road down to Horner Road. Perkin said the multimodal money coupled with the bridge project should improve access and amenities near the soccer fields and planned pickleball courts.
Aldermen asked staff to coordinate with TDOT and to brief the board after the bid schedule is set. Mayor Perkin said Jason Baker from TDOT Region 4 has agreed to come to Dyersburg to provide further details after the project is formally bid.
What’s next: TDOT’s June bid and a follow‑up presentation to the board will give a clearer timeline for construction and traffic staging.
