The board also heard details on the capital project’s next steps. Staff said roofing samples will be collected to determine whether full replacement or resurfacing is necessary, septic testing will confirm whether upgrades need to be added to the project, and exploratory excavation near the elementary will inspect a membrane to investigate reported water seepage. To support design work, the board considered a contract with SEI, described by staff as roughly 6% of the project cost — slightly below the regional average staff cited.
The board approved the SEI contract after a motion and second. The district also reported it received three bids for the site survey needed for State Education Department (SED) planning; staff recommended selecting CTM, which they said submitted the lowest bid and was about $6,000 less than the other offers. The board moved and seconded approval of the CTM purchase order; the voice vote recorded 32 ayes and one abstention in the meeting transcript and the motion carried.
District staff said awarding the survey and engaging an architect will allow the district to prepare specific plans and documentation for submission to SED and to begin scheduling the work phases (roofing assessment, septic testing and targeted excavation) to occur when buildings are not in use.
