Council approves $60,700 change order for Polley (skate) Park; ARPA contingency covers increase

Norristown's council approved a change order on May 5 increasing the Spohn Ranch Polley Park contract by $60,700, a roughly 6.7% increase, before construction begins.
Public-works staff (Sean) told the council that updated plans and rising labor and material costs — plus unexpected dirt-hauling — caused the increase. "For this project, what we're looking at is an increase to the contract to Spohn Ranch to with this change order to be from 1,000,000 to 1,060,700, which is roughly a 6.7% increase," Sean said.
Staff said the additional funds are available within an ARPA contingency that had been set aside for the project, so no budget reclassification is required. Council moved and seconded the change order and approved it by roll call.
Council members asked about timing and whether a local skateboarder could be invited to an opening ceremony; staff agreed to follow up on event planning. Construction was described as likely to start that month.
The vote carried and staff will proceed with the change order. The contract balance and ARPA funding source were noted in the presentation.
