Staff explained the instructional-materials process begins at the site level with PLC teams and principals, proceeds through district CNI review and content-area vetting, and culminates in board approval. Staff said materials (digital and print) are posted on the district website for public review, and the curriculum team will respond to questions submitted through the posted links. Trustees asked how special-education accessibility is considered; staff said accessibility features in digital texts and alternative formats (including graphic novels already approved) are part of the review.
A trustee moved to approve the instructional materials submitted for adoption; the motion passed by voice vote with no recorded nays.
On the RIMD item, staff explained that the district's RIMD — established in 2003 — allows annual parcel assessments to support maintenance of district grounds and community use of facilities. The first board step is a resolution authorizing preparation of an engineer's report that will calculate the revenues and resulting assessments for 2026–27. The board took a roll call vote to adopt resolution '25, 2643'; the roll call recorded yes votes from Trustees Lauren Brooks, Jeff Kim, Katie McKeown, Connie Stone and Cyril Yu.
The board then approved the consent calendar and facilities consent items in one motion, with item 19B pulled for a separate acknowledgment. Trustee Lauren Brooks recognized HTF Charitable Foundation for a $15,000 donation; the board approved item 19B by voice vote.
No substantive policy changes were adopted in these motions; the actions move forward curriculum procurement and the preliminary step toward next year's RIMD assessments.
