The Vienna Town Council voted May 19 to adopt a real estate tax rate of $0.195 per $100 of assessed value for fiscal year 2025-26.
Stephen Barlow, the town's director of finance, told the council the proposed rate reflects a decision to adopt the rate that would generate roughly the same revenue as the prior year given updated assessed values and called it a continuation of the current tax structure. "This is the first of three adoptions tonight," Barlow said, summarizing the advertised notice of intent and the rationale behind the rate.
Council member Springsteen moved the resolution to set the tax rate; the measure was seconded and approved by roll call with one recorded no vote from Council member Allen.
The vote comes as part of the council's broader FY2025-26 budget actions and follows the public hearing and staff presentations earlier in the process. The council directed the town clerk to advertise the adopted rate as required by statute.
The council did not change the bank net capital tax, residential or commercial utility tax structures in the motion put forward; specific levy and utility rates were reflected in the resolution submitted at the meeting.
The council's adoption of the tax rate is effective for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025; the clerk was directed to complete publication steps required by law.
