New Harmony council unanimously approves building plans, funds trail repairs and raises bulk water rate

Teresa Larsen, representing the Event Committee, opened procedural business by presenting the proposed event budget; the council voted to accept the budget. The council also approved a $50 payment to the Ohler family for removing dog waste, a small, standalone payment approved during the event-budget discussion.
Builder Tim O'Neal presented revised house plans, including a revised roof pitch. Committee member Pace moved to accept the plans; Allan seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Brad Schmutz presented a separate set of downsized house plans; Committee member Larsen moved to approve those plans, Batty seconded, and the council approved them unanimously.
Brad Schmutz separately requested town assistance to improve the trailhead access road. He estimated the work would require more than 10 truckloads of material and asked the town to provide materials while his group would supply the labor. The council voted unanimously to provide $7,500 for materials, with Pace moving and Allan seconding the motion.
The council accepted a bid from Bryce Schear for maintenance of the town's two parks and the cemetery. Batty made the motion to accept the bid, Larsen seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
On utilities, the council adopted a new bulk-water rate of $7.00 per 1,000 gallons after a motion by Larsen and a second by Pace. The change was approved unanimously.
During reports, Batty said additional training and testing are needed; Allan noted trails work planned for the fall; Larsen asked that drainage be addressed around the post office and that sandbags be prepared ahead of monsoon season. Mayor Lowell D. Prince asked staff to check for an outstanding bill from Alpha Engineering and said he, Larsen and Batty would inspect town matters on Saturday. The meeting closed at 8:45 p.m. following a unanimous motion to adjourn.
