Kyle council names Pervez Mohit interim city manager, sets $270,758 salary

The City of Kyle council on May 5 unanimously approved a resolution appointing Pervez Mohit as interim city manager and retaining his title as finance director for a minimum 12‑month term effective May 9, 2026, with an interim annual salary of $270,758.

Council members said Mohit’s long tenure in municipal finance made him the right choice to steer the city through a challenging budget season. Mayor Pro Tem Tobias noted the city needs “somebody on board that is very familiar with our financing,” and cited Mohit’s institutional knowledge while introducing the resolution. In presenting the resolution, council members pointed to the complexity of the coming budget work and to the importance of continuity in financial leadership.

Pervez Mohit addressed the council briefly after the vote, thanking members for their support and pledging that “we will continue to be responsive, transparent, and accountable” during the transition. City staff told council the appointment preserves continuity by keeping Mohit’s finance responsibilities and office in city hall while granting him the full authorities of the city manager under the city charter for the duration of the interim assignment.

Council debated and then approved the resolution without recorded opposition; the motion carried 7–0. The resolution also specifies that Mohit shall not be required to reside within city limits during his interim term and preserves certain leave accrual provisions.

The council’s action followed public comments from residents who told the council they supported the appointment and urged fiscal prudence in light of previously discussed large capital proposals. The council did not take further personnel actions at the meeting.
