Council approves $360K amendment to city guard services, staff details patrol focus

The City Council approved Amendment No. 2 to the city-guard professional-services agreement on Feb. 25, authorizing approximately $360,000 for patrols and related services under the City Guard contract.
Council members asked staff about the role and scope of the contracted guards. Staff said the guards conduct evening patrols of Landscape and Lighting Maintenance Districts (LMDs), parks and well sites, report maintenance issues (for example lights out or vandalism) and submit daily incident reports to staff. The city’s engineering/staff representative said: “They drive through each of the LMDs every night. They’re primarily focused on evening time patrols, and they’re mostly looking at the parks, we’re looking at our well sites, we’re looking at the public infrastructure, and they do send me a report every single day for anything that that they see there.”
Vote: The council moved and seconded the item and approved the amendment by roll call; recorded votes were affirmative.
What’s next: Staff will continue to receive daily guard reports and will brief council on any operational changes; the amendment funds ongoing patrol and reporting activities under the existing contract.
