The Cherokee County School Board voted unanimously Aug. 21 to adopt changes to board policy JBD, governing absences and excuses. School staff said the revisions were "necessitated by legislative action earlier this year" and had been discussed at last month’s board meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Davis turned the item over to staff for a briefing before the board considered a motion to approve on final reading. Board members moved and seconded the motion and, after no further discussion, the chair called the vote; the motion carried unanimously.
The board did not identify amendments to the draft during the meeting; staff characterized the update as an administrative alignment with new state requirements and last month’s discussion. The board chair said the change would be implemented according to the timeline in the policy materials provided to members.
The action concludes the formal adoption process for policy JBD. Staff and the superintendent will follow up with implementation steps and any necessary notifications to families and schools.
