Board approves policy changes; principal reports enrollment and upcoming events

The East Kingston School Board approved four policies as presented in the board packet. The chair said the packet included revisions to student-conduct policies (JICC and JIC), a revision addressing students' physical and emotional well-being (JLCK), and a new or retitled transportation policy (EEAE) to broaden the district-provided transportation definition. The chair moved to approve the policies and a board member seconded; the board approved them by voice vote.

In the principal's report, the principal promoted Seussical Kids performances on March 20 at 7 p.m. (opening night) and a March 21 matinee at 11 a.m., recapped a PTO event that hosted retirees and highlighted a summer professional learning institute and a two-day MTSS/PLC workshop the SAU is hosting. The principal reported grade-level enrollment in the meeting as: kindergarten 25; first grade 18; second grade 18; third grade 26; fourth grade 22; fifth grade 12. The principal also said a writing pilot has started and that more substantive decisions about pilot results are expected in May.

The board also noted that Steve Cooper began as the district's new safety director and that the safety and security committee expects to meet again before the school year ends.
