Board appoints interim public‑works director, approves Reading subdivision and adopts public‑service proclamations

At its May 5 meeting the Shasta County Board of Supervisors took several routine but consequential steps: it appointed John Heath as interim public works director retroactive to May 3 for a period not to exceed 180 days, approved a zone amendment and tract map for a 1.5‑acre parcel in Reading to allow a six‑lot single‑family subdivision, and adopted proclamations recognizing correctional staff and Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Planning staff presented the Reading proposal (zone amendment 25‑0002 and track map 25‑0001), noting the parcel is consistent with the county general plan, will be served by city of Redding water and sewer (a will‑serve letter was on file), and includes a required six‑foot solid fence and stormwater controls. No public commenters signed up for this item at the board hearing. Supervisor Long said the parcel’s connection to city service makes the project consistent with county land‑use policies. The board approved the CEQA mitigated negative declaration, the zone change and the tract map 5–0.

During the public‑service items the board also read and adopted proclamations naming Amanda Hemingway employee of the month, designating National Correctional Officers Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day; staff and an assistant chief probation officer introduced and praised the honoree.

What’s next: John Heath will serve as interim director while the department completes recruitment or a permanent appointment; the Reading subdivision will proceed under the approved conditions, subject to standard ministerial steps and required agency permits.
