Greg Hay told commissioners crews are "out patching some holes with some new patch material that we got here recently" and described completed work on Road E where crews ran water down a ditch rather than dumping it on a neighbor. The report listed completed ditch cleanouts, culvert replacements and contracted overlay work in Milan, and noted the county finished a road-sign project.
Roads staff reported the report’s figure for surface improvement material as stated in the document ("59,88.83 cubic yards"), and commissioners asked that the next report convert cubic-yard figures into dollars for public clarity because the dollar amount is more meaningful to residents. Staff said they began spring with depleted stockpiles and expect numbers to look different next year after restocking.
Staff also noted an upcoming need to recruit motorgrader operators as current operators near retirement. The department said it expects to continue some contracted work while building internal capacity for inspections and maintenance.
No formal action was taken on the report, but commissioners thanked staff and requested the requested clarifying dollar figures be added to future reports for public information.
