Superintendent Dr. Perry told the board the district adopted the budget in April and that, under New York State law, the board must hold a public hearing before the budget vote.
Dr. Perry said the board election and budget vote are scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, and described efforts to inform voters: a Q&A web page aligned to the budget will be published and a newsletter summarizing the budget will be printed and mailed so it should reach mailboxes at least a week before the vote. "Per New York State law, we hold a public hearing every year to address any concerns," Dr. Perry said.
No public questions or comments were recorded during the hearing portion of the meeting. The superintendent invited audience members and board members to submit questions and noted printed materials will be distributed after the hearing.
The board did not take a final vote on the budget at the May 5 meeting; the district-wide vote will be held on May 19 at both middle schools.
