Resident urges stronger action after dog killed on property, says animal control response inconsistent

At the March 16 meeting, resident Denzel Harry told the Rancho Cordova City Council his dog was killed on his property in January by a neighbor’s two dogs and urged the city to review animal control’s response.
"At the January, my dog was killed by my neighbor's 2 dogs on my property," Harry said, describing an investigation by animal control that resulted in restrictions that he said have since been violated. He said his mother runs a licensed day‑care at the same address, that small children are regularly on site, and that the repeated violations create an ongoing safety risk.
Harry told the council he found prior cases — including one in Rancho Cordova three years earlier — that he said had been handled differently by animal control and suggested inconsistent enforcement. "I checked the municipal code, and nothing has changed," he said, asking the council to escalate the review and to consider having the dogs rehomed rather than left under contested restrictions.
Mayor Gatewood asked a councilmember and staff to follow up directly with Harry after the meeting; staff present offered to speak with him immediately. The council did not take formal action during the meeting, but Harry asked for a different review or second look by animal‑control leadership.
