Students present community planter boxes to Cohoes board as part of civic-readiness program

Two students introduced as Kylie McGann and Mary Vaughn presented a civic-readiness project to the Cohoes City School District Board of Education proposing community planter/food boxes to increase access to fresh produce and provide hands-on learning。
The students said their design is simple and intended to be easy to replicate so future classes can add artwork or modifications. They proposed locating the boxes on a grassy hill beyond the far end of the football field and estimated the materials cost at about $150 per box.
Board members responded positively; the Chair praised the idea as a good addition to the school community and offered to help connect students with a gardener for advice on plant care. The superintendent and board indicated appreciation and encouraged the students— classroom to continue with design and implementation planning.
The presentation was framed as part of the district—s Seal of Civic Readiness student presentations and was noted by the superintendent as an example of students engaging across arts, science and photography.
