Board hears $20M bond‑funded high school renovation plan, indoor complex extension to limit displacement

Deputy Superintendent/Operations (Speaker 21) said the district sold a $20 million bond to commence renovation and replacement work at Clovis High School. The district is pursuing a $40 million match from the Public Schools Capital Outlay Committee (PSCOC) and expects to present to the PSCOC on May 14. ‘‘We are on track to begin immediately on this project,’’ he said, adding that permits were stamped and sealed and that a chosen vendor, Grego and Sons, is ready to start demolition for the CHSFA renovation.
To avoid displacing hundreds of students and programs during construction (Band: ~285 students; choir: ~125), the district proposes extending the Lehi complex (an indoor athletics and multi‑use facility) to provide rehearsal, testing and event space. The Lehi extension is expected to take about nine months; the district said it will use previously allocated special state safety funds and some mill levy money for the preemptive complex work, while bond dollars would be dedicated to renovating CHS Main.
District staff also described plans to renovate Raintree as a banquet/training facility with culinary training opportunities tied to culinary students and to support the summer lunch program. Board members asked about timeline, funding sources and permitting; staff cited stamped plans, selected contractors and an anticipated sequence of demo, renovation and program transitions.
No formal construction contract approvals were recorded in the meeting minutes; staff said further action items will return as bids and schedules are finalized.
