The Frederick County School Board finance committee on Monday approved forwarding two technology contract award recommendations to the full board: a $225,250 award to ePlus Technology Inc. for telecommunications systems mitigation and an award to CDW Government LLC for technology hardware and student Chromebooks.
Mrs. Anderson explained the ePlus contract is intended to replace aging telecommunications equipment and migrate the division away from legacy landline systems, noting that providers are no longer installing traditional landlines. "This is replacing the old with the new technology," she said, adding the project fits within the division's budget.
The second recommended award to CDW Government LLC covers technology hardware, software and student Chromebooks; Mrs. Anderson said the full award amount is shown on the screen during the meeting. Tim Grant, IT director, told the committee the procurement includes Chromebooks, monitors, mice and keyboards and offered to provide statistics on devices lost, damaged or repaired upon request.
A committee member disclosed a former employment relationship with CDW and said they have no current legal or financial ties. That disclosure was recorded prior to the committee moving and approving the recommendation to forward the CDW contract.
Both contract recommendations were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote and will be considered by the full board.
Next steps: staff will present contract documents and award details to the full Frederick County School Board for final approval; Tim Grant will provide device replacement/damage numbers when requested by board members.
