The Lewisville City Council voted unanimously Thursday to approve an ordinance granting a special‑use permit authorizing automobile sales and leasing for the Sampax 5 Star Ford property (Case 25‑09‑12‑SUP).
Mayor TJ Gilmore opened the public hearing on the zoning change for approximately 15.428 acres at 1144 North Stemmons Freeway and introduced planning staff who said the planning and zoning commission had recommended unanimous approval on April 7. Planning Director Richard Lukey and project proponents including Josh Edge and Sue Bowman were present and identified as supporters of the application.
Council members asked planning staff to confirm tree placement in employee parking areas and compared Lewisville’s tree requirement to peer cities; planning staff said the city’s standard is generally more aggressive than many peers and that trees had been sited to maximize visual and environmental impact while locating employee parking behind buildings.
After a motion to close the public hearing, a council member moved to approve the ordinance as presented and the motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Gilmore thanked the dealership for reinvestment in the community.
Next steps: The approved ordinance amends the unified development code to allow the special use as described in the caption of the staff report. Any site plan, building elevations and measures required to implement tree planting will be reviewed through the city’s permitting and site‑plan process.
