Madison County approves YMCA MOU to manage youth sports at county park

Madison County supervisors on May 4 approved a memorandum of understanding with the YMCA to facilitate youth sports programming — including soccer, softball and baseball — at the county park.
County counsel and staff said the arrangement shifts responsibilities for organizing and providing referees to the YMCA and that the county will not incur direct costs. "It's no cost," county counsel said when asked about county financial commitments. Staff noted the county already has a liability policy that will apply to park activities and that the MOU contains limitations of liability.
The agreement was described as between the board of supervisors, the mayor and the YMCA and is intended to allow broad county resident participation. YMCA staff, the county said, will provide referees or train volunteers to serve as referees when needed.
Supervisors moved, seconded and approved the MOU; no fiscal commitment from the county was recorded in the meeting discussion.
