During the Jan. 26 meeting the city manager delivered the city manager report highlighting personnel and project updates.
The manager announced that, effective Feb. 1, Battalion Chief Tony D'Ambrosi will assume the role of assistant fire chief after a career that began as a volunteer relief firefighter in 2008. "So he's in the back, and I wanna say congratulations to Tony for that," the manager said.
The manager also outlined local Chamber of Commerce awards and told the council the historic design review commission approved improvements to the Auburn State Theater at its January meeting. The applicant has submitted a building permit and hopes to begin construction in spring; planned improvements include new exterior painting, various interior upgrades and the addition of a 1,200-square-foot green room. The manager said this project follows the theater's 2023 roof-ceiling collapse and represents ongoing recovery work.
Mayor Kelly Davis also announced a Feb. 10 town hall hosted by the economic development committee to inform residents and businesses about city finances and support for local enterprises. Council members urged early planning for upcoming events including the Canyons and Western States races this spring and summer.
The council did not take formal action on these items at the meeting; they were reported for information and scheduled follow-up.
