City staff told the Economic Development Planning Subcommittee on April 2 that the contract with the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce is up for renewal and recommended the committee review contract elements related to small-business support and city events.
Staff discussed using unused Chamber space for public-facing services, including tenant-support office hours run by a partner organization and periodic visits by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The proposal noted KDI would bring tenant-support services as part of displacement-avoidance work; staff suggested scheduling office hours on Mondays when the space is less used so residents can access help with landlord issues or eviction questions.
Committee members supported revisiting the Chamber contract and asked staff to bring options back for discussion, including potential partnerships to increase on-site business assistance and to host training or workshops in the available space.
Next steps: staff will invite the Chamber to a future meeting to discuss contract elements and will follow up on scheduling tenant-support office hours and potential SBDC presence in May or June.
