Gerardo Gonzalez, Community Information Associate Director for Interface (2‑1‑1), briefed the Santa Paula City Council on how 2‑1‑1 served city residents in 2025.
Gonzalez said 680 calls from Santa Paula addresses were received in 2025, but cautioned that call volume includes repeat callers and does not represent unique individuals. "A significant number of our Santa Paula callers reach out to us more than once," he said, noting 264 were first‑time callers. He listed the top needs expressed by local callers: housing ranked first, income support second, and family/community support third. Gonzalez said 32 calls were classified as callers at risk of homelessness and 45 calls related to individuals currently experiencing homelessness; he emphasized those numbers reflect call content rather than unique individuals.
Gonzalez described programs available through 2‑1‑1 and partner services: no‑cost VITA tax preparation appointments, PSPS case‑management for power‑shutdown support in partnership with Southern California Edison, and Enhanced Care Management for eligible Gold Coast Health Plan members. He emphasized the service is free, confidential and bilingual, and can be accessed by calling 2‑1‑1, texting a zip code, or visiting 211ventura.org.
Councilmembers thanked the presenter and asked about funding and outreach; Gonzalez said funding is a mix of city partnerships, county contracts, United Way arrangements and special project grants; he noted the 2‑1‑1 operation serves many counties across California and relies on a mix of contracts and project funding.
The council expressed interest in listing 2‑1‑1 resources on the city's website and staff said they would follow up to ensure links and contact information are posted.
