Monrovia outlines expanded Friday-night SPOT youth program with new activities and partners

Monrovia Recreation Supervisor Tiffany Peterson updated the council on an enhanced SPOT youth program that will run Friday evenings at Library Park beginning June 5 for 10 weeks.
Peterson said the program grew in 2025 with a reported 37% increase in average teen participation (about 142 youths per night versus roughly 100 in 2024) and a high attendance night of 172. The program targets sixth- through twelfth-graders and will reintroduce popular features such as laser tag, mini golf, human foosball and community-partner booths. Peterson noted partnerships with Monrovia Area Partnership, Makers and Clay, Namaste, Black Cat Fables and local eateries providing meals or discounts, including Raising Cane's and Dave's Hot Chicken.
Council members asked whether there will be staff and medical coverage and whether age limits would be enforced; staff said there will be a designated staff presence and on-site medical support and that promotions to schools and local businesses are underway.
Peterson thanked the council for its support and said the program intends to create a safe, teen-only space with weekly activities and youth internships to support staffing.
