Council approves temporary wellness camping event permit for May weekend

The City Council on April 27 approved an entertainment permit (EP 26-03) for a temporary "Reset Wellness" camping event to be held May 29—31 on approximately 7.79 acres (Assessor Parcels 779-310-012 and 779-310-013).
Staff (Adrian Moreno, associate planner) said the permit is similar to previously approved temporary camping weekends; the proposed event includes 45 glamping tents, 50 vacant spaces, parking for 161 vehicles and a maximum of 200 guests. Notable conditions carried from prior approvals include quiet hours (12 a.m.-6 a.m.), 24/7 on-site security, vendor business licenses, compliance with TOT tax rules, and authority for the chief of police to pause the event if problems arise.
The applicant (introduced by staff as Claudia Lueva Alvarado) addressed the council via Zoom and said prior weekends had occurred without reported issues and that this wellness event is targeted at local attendees. "We're really excited to bring that to the community because Coachella and Stagecoach are mostly for festival goers... this recent wellness camping event is gonna be for the locals," the applicant said.
Riverside County health, code enforcement and the sheriff's office reported no issues during previously approved weekends, according to staff. After public comment in support of the applicant's local-business benefits, the council moved and approved the permit on roll-call vote, with conditions recommended by staff.
What happens next: The event is permitted for the May 29—31 weekend subject to the conditions of approval; staff and public safety partners will monitor compliance and the chief of police retains authority to pause or stop the event if necessary.
