DPW reports: traffic calming, sidewalk design and Capital Bikeshare progress

DPW staff provided a brief project update to the Transportation Safety Commission on April 28 covering three near‑term construction items and a Council action tied to a TSC petition.
Andrew (DPW) said design work is complete for Airhill Avenue at Lawyers Road traffic‑calming and that DPW is coordinating with on‑call construction contractors; construction is anticipated sometime this summer after resident coordination. The Kingsley Road Southwest sidewalk project has completed design and is finalizing bid documents; DPW will advertise for construction contracts after VDOT approves bid documents, with construction expected in early summer or fall.
On Capital Bikeshare, Andrew said concrete pads for three of five stations were installed in early April. "The stations and bikes have been ordered and are expected to be delivered and installed in the summer," he said. He also reported that Town Council approved the TSC motion related to a petition for installations in the area bounded by Veil, James Drive and Yonas Drive; that installation will include a six‑month review as the council requested.
Committee reports noted related community cycling events. The Bicycle Advisory Committee reminded members that the Tour de Hunter Mill ride will begin in Meadowlark Park on May 3 and that Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 15, with a Vienna pit stop planned at the Town Green.
DPW staff said the items are moving into construction and procurement phases and will return with more detailed schedules and contract information as those processes proceed.
