Mayberry Elementary hosted the East Hartford Board of Education for a School Board Appreciation Month event featuring student performances, staff spotlights and family testimonials.
A student presenter described the Chinese New Year program and upcoming community fundraisers. Principal Angie Hewins welcomed the board and families, praised community partnerships and invited staff and students to share highlights from the school. Art teacher Rob Monti (22 years in district) described his work at Mayberry and praised the principal’s leadership and the staff’s commitment to student safety and relationships.
Several students and family members spoke about what they like at Mayberry: a first grader described running club and violin lessons; a family member who identified herself as "auntie Nikki" credited the school with helping her niece recover academically and emotionally after family trauma and urged that the child remain at Mayberry following adoption to preserve continuity.
Board members thanked Mayberry staff for hosting the meeting and asked that student artwork be moved to the district offices for display. The celebration portion of the meeting concluded before the board completed its regular business.
No formal board action was required for the presentations; the remarks were part of the board’s appreciation and community engagement agenda.
