Franklin County schools honor safety coordinator Jeff Abrams and name student, staff champions

At a Franklin County Board of Education meeting, a state school security marshal presented a certificate of appreciation to Jeff Abrams, recognizing his work as Franklin County’s school safety coordinator and his contributions to regional school security efforts.

According to the presenter, Abrams — identified in the packet as Captain Jeff Abrams of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the district’s school safety coordinator since 2019 — helped the district implement two notable measures: a remote-access video system that allows first responders to view live school camera feeds from vehicle MDTs, and exterior-door alarm systems that alert school staff to unsecured doors. The presenter said Abrams has been a resource for other districts in the marshal’s region and is one of the original school safety coordinators in that area. “You’ve got one of the best,” the presenter said while handing Abrams a certificate.

The board also named LaVonte Fair the student champion of the month, honoring his classroom engagement and selection for the student voice program, and presented a champion’s belt and photo opportunity. Staff champion of the month honors went to Katie Murphy, the district’s behavior interventionist and ESS coordinator, for her daily work with students and leadership in supporting challenging learners.

The recognitions were followed by brief remarks and photos. The meeting then proceeded to routine agenda items, including construction approvals and consent agenda votes.
