Cherokee County school board lays out four core beliefs to guide governance

At the December work session, board member Patsy Jordan read and explained four core beliefs the Cherokee County Board of Education developed in August 2024 to guide governance and policy.

Jordan said the beliefs were created through an exercise in which each board member answered four questions about students, employees, families and schools; those responses were woven into a unified set of beliefs. She listed the board's four core beliefs as (1) that all students are capable of reaching their learning potential, (2) that employees are trusted and provided resources, (3) that families are engaged partners in student success, and (4) that schools should be positive, welcoming environments with clear expectations and accountability. "These beliefs now serve as the foundation of our governance," Jordan said, adding that they will inform goal setting, policy and resource alignment.

Superintendent Dr. Davis and other board members said the core beliefs provide a compass for decision‑making and help align boardroom priorities with classroom practice. No formal vote was recorded; the presentation was offered as an informational governance report.
