School board adds 'agreed upon' language to policy on board attorney, approves on final read

On final reading the Cherokee County School Board adopted modifications to policy BBE to clarify the school board's service agreement for legal services.

Superintendent Davis introduced the final reading and invited district staff member McGowan to brief the board. McGowan said the changes were intended to clarify and modernize the board's service agreement for legal services.

Board member Steiner proposed a narrow amendment to insert the words "agreed upon" in the second paragraph so the sentence would read that the school board attorney "will provide agreed upon legal services" rather than simply "upon legal services rendered." After the amendment was read aloud and seconded, the chair called for discussion. No substantive opposition was recorded and the chair announced the amendment motion carried.

The board then took a separate motion to adopt policy BBE as amended; the chair called the question and the board approved the policy as amended.
