Elmhurst approves police station schematic and swears in three promoted supervisors

The Elmhurst City Council on May 4 approved a schematic design (Concept 1) for a new police station at 125 East 1st Street and advanced the project into the design development phase. The vote followed a presentation summarizing public open houses, Architectural & Building Commission input and a recommendation from the Public Works & Building Committee.
Alderman Emily Bostido, committee chair, said public input favored a two‑story building with a medium‑tone masonry palette and a community plaza linking to the restored landscape terrace along Palmer Drive. The committee recommended directing FGMA to proceed under the existing contract to the design development phase; the council approved the recommendation unanimously (13 ayes, 0 nays).
Earlier in the meeting Mayor Scott M. Levin administered oaths to three members of the Elmhurst Police Department in a promotion ceremony: Tim Jorgensen (sergeant), Anthony Cazone (police commander) and Steve Mandett (deputy chief). Family members joined each officer at the dais. Police Commissioner Jim Parker congratulated the newly promoted supervisors, calling their willingness to take on leadership "a truly awesome responsibility."
What's next: with schematic approval the architects will prepare design development documents; the council and committee will review further phases including final design and construction management. The promotion dates are effective immediately as sworn at the May 4 meeting.
