New Adams County dog kennel nears completion; commissioners approve appliances purchase

Dog Warden Donnie Swayne updated the Adams County Board of Commissioners on progress at the new county dog kennel and the board approved a small appliances purchase at the Nov. 10 meeting.
Swayne told the board paving was complete and roughly half of the interior kennel units are installed. He said the facility still needs 24-inch dog beds for the indoor kennels and that the final state inspection has not yet been completed. Swayne reported that the brackets for the guillotine doors were stolen before installation and will need to be re-manufactured. Spectrum internet installation is scheduled for Nov. 20, 2025.
The board approved an estimate from Lowe’s Home Improvement for a washer, dryer and refrigerator totaling $2,329.97 for the kennel (Resolution No. 2025-482). The motion was made by Barbara Moore Holt, seconded by Kelly Jones; Moore Holt and Jones recorded AYE votes, with Commissioner Jason Hayslip absent.
No timeline for the final state inspection or delivery of missing kennel beds was recorded in the minutes. County staff will proceed with the approved appliance purchase and the dog warden will follow up on outstanding items and the pending installation and inspection.
