The Tullahoma City Schools Board of Education amended its agenda at the start of the meeting to remove consideration of the director's contract and to move that item to a special-called meeting for further review. Chair called the motion to amend the agenda and it was seconded and approved by the board.
During public comment, Maureen Burke of 107 Breckenridge Road asked the board to consider "accountability for the administrative costs" when evaluating contracts and urged the district to ensure parents have a meaningful way to weigh in on textbook and curriculum selection when that discussion occurs. Burke said administrative costs appeared to be "upwards of $1,000,000 for the two positions that run the schools," and asked the board to incorporate stakeholder input into any contract decisions.
Board members who made and seconded the motions to amend and then approve the agenda were recorded on the meeting's register (motion to amend followed by the main motion to approve the agenda as amended). The chair said the director's contract "did not get to us until late" and that more time was needed to read the document, so the item will be placed on a special-called meeting agenda to permit additional review.
The board took no final action on the director's contract at this meeting; members and staff agreed to schedule the special meeting with at least 48 hours' public notice.
What happens next: The board will post notice of the special-called meeting addressing the director's contract; no vote or contract action was taken at the regular meeting.
