But he has figured out a way to where, basically, it's gonna take about $30,000 seed money and to be able to get that program in place,” the committee member said. The member added that the O'Connor Nuclear Station fire marshal has offered donated training equipment he valued at approximately $60,000, and that discussions are underway to pursue grant support from Duke Energy.
Members indicated general support for moving the pilot forward and said the district has tentatively added the $30,000 to its budget request; details on instructor hiring and exact equipment lists will be developed as part of budget presentations.
Next steps: Staff and school-district representatives will bring specific budget and equipment details to the May 18 presentation and subsequent council readings.
