The Adelanto City Council on Jan. 13 appointed multiple members to the city's Planning Commission and considered several nominations.
Mayor Reyes nominated Laura Villa; the council moved and approved the appointment unanimously. Councilwoman Evans later nominated Jaishawn (JaySean) Johnson, and residents called in to voice support for Johnson, but the motion failed because no councilmember seconded it. Councilwoman Jeanette nominated Terry Delgado and Councilman Ramos nominated Angelo Mesa; both nominations received seconding motions and were approved by roll-call vote.
Public commenters addressed the council during the appointment hearings. Several residents urged the council to reappoint Jaishawn Johnson, citing his community engagement and election performance; other residents voiced support for Terry Delgado and Angelo Mesa as experienced community volunteers and youth mentors. Council members emphasized the nominees' community involvement and, in one case, the desire for a candidate focused on youth outreach.
Votes on the confirmed appointments were recorded by roll call. Where a nomination failed to receive a second, the motion died without a vote. The council discussed but did not reopen the failed nomination during the meeting.
The council moved on to committee assignments and other administrative matters after finishing the appointments.
