BLM to review Mountain Dew Trail mapping after council flags middle‑section closure that confuses users

The Emery County Public Lands Council discussed confusing route status on the Mountain Dew Trail on the west side of Cedar Mountain, where both ends of a loop are open but the middle section is technically closed.
Council members said the route is heavily used by full‑size vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles and equestrian users, and noted Emery County has done maintenance on the open portions. Members expressed concern that the closed middle section appears to be a mapping inconsistency or oversight dating to older travel management planning (circa 2008), and that inconsistent signage places users at risk of unintentionally violating regulations.
A representative from the BLM Price Field Office told the council that a formal letter from the County Commission is not necessary at this time; BLM will research the issue internally, evaluate options to correct the route designation, and report back to the council at the next meeting. BLM also noted broader work to address dispersed‑use management and similar field issues in the area.
