Council proclaims Black History Month honoree, accepts DAV award and hears resident request to improve snow‑emergency communications

The North College Hill City Council recognized Barbara Murray Graves with a Black History Month proclamation for long service to local schools and the community, and accepted an appreciation award from the DAV for the city’s police and fire departments.

Council Member Kathy Keratin introduced the proclamation honoring Mrs. Graves’ service to the school district and broader community; Mayor Erin Nichols and other council members took part in the presentation. Graves thanked the council and said it had been an honor to serve the children of North College Hill.

Later in public comment, Tracy Wright, a longtime North College Hill resident, said she had not received notice of a recent snow emergency because she does not use social media and could not find timely information on the city website. Wright asked the council to consider alternative channels for residents who do not use social media.

Mayor Erin Nichols acknowledged the concern and said she would speak to the staff member responsible for the website to ensure information is posted and to revisit the city’s app/push-notification options. Council members also suggested using the website’s subscription/"notify me" function and other non‑social channels to reach residents who are not on Facebook or Instagram.

The presentations and the public‑comment exchange were procedural and informational; no formal policy changes were enacted during the meeting, though council members asked administration to follow up on communications options.
