Cusseta–Chattahoochee commissioners approve forestry agreement, reappointments and insurance renewal; solid-waste bids under review

At regular and work sessions in June, the Board of Commissioners approved several routine but consequential items and discussed procurement and service updates.
On June 4 the board approved the annual agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission to provide a fire-tower operator and related wildfire detection and suppression assistance for Cusseta–Chattahoochee County. The contract period runs July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, and the county's payment for the contract period is capped at $4,738.58. Commissioner Timothy Biddle moved to approve the agreement; Commissioner Jason Frost seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Also at the June 4 meeting the Commission reappointed Timothy Biddle and Gerald Douglas to represent the county on the Lower Chattahoochee Regional Transportation Authority, with terms noted in the adopted resolutions.
Commissioners approved an employee insurance renewal after staff recommended a new fee schedule; the motion was moved by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Commissioner Gerald Douglas and passed unanimously.
During the June 24 work session staff reported three solid-waste contract bids that will be considered for award at the July 2 regular meeting: GFL ($20 per month plus $5 per tire), Jones Sanitation ($23.50 per month) and Zero Waste ($25.52 per month). Commissioners instructed staff to place the solid-waste award and related items (budget amendments, a disabled-veteran refund request, a New Horizons annual agreement and a conditional-use permit at 110 Stagecoach) on the July 2 agenda.
County Manager Thomas Weaver also briefed commissioners on operational updates: ongoing ambulance-fee collections, an expected mid-December county-wide broadband deployment by Charter/Spectrum and Bingham Construction that should cover roughly 90% of the county, near-completion cemetery work (hydroseeding pending), and the receipt of LMIG funds and submission of a supplemental application that together total about $355,000.
