McAlester council approves conveyance to Krebs Brewing Company, authorizes sale at 103 Stephen Taylor Boulevard

The McAlester City Council unanimously approved an ordinance authorizing the conveyance of approximately 12.3 acres in the Stephen Taylor Industrial Park to Krebs Brewing Company and authorized the interim city manager to complete a related sale at 103 Stephen Taylor Boulevard.

Staff member Mister Summer told the council the ordinance was required because “under section 2.117 of the McAlester City Charter, city-owned real property cannot be conveyed without formal approval by ordinance of the city council.” He summarized the deal as “an ordinance authorizing advance of approximately 12.3 acres in the Stephen Taylor Industrial Park to Krebs Brewing Company.” Summer said the sale had been previously approved by the council in September 2025 but that Krebs Brewing delayed exercising its purchase option while it reevaluated potential expansion; the brewery has renewed its request and staff updated the contract with new payoff numbers and a changed timeframe. He said the property was originally part of a Community Development Block Grant project and required state approval before the city could complete the sale; the council packet included an Oklahoma Department of Commerce letter dated 03/12/2026 outlining the required payoff amount and remaining grant obligation.

Councilor Roden moved to approve the ordinance and Councilor Beatty seconded; the clerk called the roll and Councilor Roden, Councilor Beatty, Councilor Stone, Councilor Boatwright and the Mayor all voted yes. The council then approved an emergency clause for the ordinance after a separate motion by Councilor Boatwright and a second by Councilor Beatty; that motion carried unanimously. Later the council authorized the interim city manager to complete the sale of the property and building at 103 Stephen Taylor Boulevard to Krebs Brewery under the conditions outlined in the Department of Commerce letter. That motion, moved by Councilor Boatwright and seconded by Councilor Stone, passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.

After the votes the council recessed to convene the economic development authority and moved to concur with the actions taken on city council agenda items 1 and 2 before adjourning. No members of the public spoke during the public hearing on the ordinance.
