The McAlester City Council approved a series of water and street infrastructure actions, including awarding a $4,779,705 contract to Mach Energy Services for street water system improvements funded in part by a $5 million EPA BWSRF grant.
Engineering staff told the council that six contractors reviewed plans and Mach Energy of Oklahoma City submitted the lowest responsive bid. Councilors discussed contingencies and opportunities to extend lines where feasible; staff said the grant provides a buffer for additions and contingency costs.
Council also approved multiple DWSRF change orders for water-system projects, including a final deduction of $88,878 on the Main Street water improvements project. Separately, the council authorized change order work that includes moving a hydrant via a hot tap to avoid shutting down a 12-inch main.
The council approved the purchase and installation of six flocculator assemblies at the water treatment plant at a cost of $125,520 after plant staff explained that existing gearboxes and transmissions are discontinued and repairs have become costly and unreliable. Staff said the flocculators are essential to the clarification phase of treatment and replacing them will reduce downtime and electrical loads.
