McAlester council swears in newly elected members; Beatty chosen to continue as vice mayor

The McAlester City Council opened its April meeting with oaths of office for newly elected council members and a unanimous reappointment of Kevin Beatty as vice mayor.
Judge Heckler administered the oath of office to incoming members, including Michael Brooks, who repeated the oath as ward 4 councilor. After brief welcome remarks and photos, new and returning councilors offered short statements of gratitude to constituents and expressed priorities for the coming year.
Mayor (speaker 4) nominated Councilor Beatty to continue as vice mayor. The nomination, seconded by Councilor Boatwright, passed on a roll-call vote with Councilors Woodley, Stone, Brooks, Boatwright, Beatty and the mayor voting yes.
The council then moved on to regular business, including recognition of student artists and a series of budget and infrastructure items scheduled for action at the meeting.
