In 'Great Things Happening in Hueytown,' Debbie Kiker, director of the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce, listed upcoming community activities including a car show on May 9, a Meet-the-Coach event on May 14, the business of the month, and the Home Plate Diner’s 25th anniversary.
During the public comment period, the council reminded speakers of rules that speakers must state name and address and be Hueytown residents, with comments limited to three minutes. Several residents used the time to report neighborhood issues:
- Mary Myers asked about the location of the Nature Park and requested an update on the Hueytown Road widening project; the mayor responded. - Natoria Prince reported people dumping limbs and trash on a corner lot in her neighborhood and asked for city attention. - Ozella Ogletree requested action related to an abatement issue at 3219 Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive. - Ellen Dolan requested an update concerning a nuisance at 215 Hart Avenue, thanked volunteers who removed dumped items, and reported four-wheelers operating without helmets on local streets. - Patrick McAbee Jr. reported unsafe driving in Westwind and Virginia Drive neighborhoods, including improper passing and failure to obey stop signs. - Judy Maxwell reported a dangerous intersection near her home caused by tree limbs obstructing sight lines.
The council did not take formal votes on these public-comment items during the meeting beyond noting related resolutions already on the agenda; follow-up for abatement matters was assigned to Code Enforcement where appropriate. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
