Board chair highlights association leadership change, state budget uncertainty and urges turnout for May 19 vote

The board chair reported to the Board that she, Betty Burrows and Renee Garrison attended a recent Allegheny and Kattarabi School Board Association meeting where officials and speakers discussed regional issues and the state budget.
The chair said Paula Van Dyke has led the association as executive director for more than 30 years and praised her "many" accomplishments, adding that Amanda McDonald will take over as executive director. "Amanda has been involved, and she's been on — she's decided to hang in there," the chair said, clarifying later that the incoming director's last name is McDonald.
The chair also said assemblyman Joe Semmelinski provided an update on the New York state budget and warned that "they've passed 9 budget extenders so far and counting," noting that lawmakers have repeatedly extended temporary measures and that a full state budget still must be passed.
On regional policy, the chair said presenters discussed regionalization and sharing services, and argued that rural districts should consider pooling resources to maintain programs and support. A board member added that they have attended those regional meetings for years but were unable to attend the latest session because it conflicted with a class at Saint Bonaventure University.
The chair announced the board will honor Mary and Julio at an upcoming meeting for "exemplary service" on the main school board and reminded residents that May 19 is an election day, urging people to "just get out and vote." She then turned the meeting over to Dr. Morris to continue the agenda.
