Commission approves easement vacation to allow lot combination for McKinnon Square project

The City Commission voted unanimously to approve first reading of Ordinance 26-11, which would vacate a dedicated utility and drainage easement on Lot 478, Oakland Park Unit 5, to permit combining 841 Tilden Oaks Trail and 15411 East Oakland Avenue into one parcel for a mixed-use building tied to the McKinnon Square planned commercial development.
Staff presented the request, saying the lot combination is required to construct one of the mixed-use buildings approved by the commission in March and that approval of the lot combination is contingent on successful vacation of the easements. The staff recommendation to approve the ordinance carried on a unanimous voice vote after the public hearing was opened with no speakers.
The ordinance text locates the easement in plat book 101, page 73, of the Orange County public records and provides for an effective date and recording upon adoption. The commission scheduled a second reading and public hearing on May 14 to finalize the ordinance.
No public comments were recorded during the hearing on this item; staff said they would proceed with the administrative steps required to record the vacation if the ordinance is adopted on second reading.
