Enclave Coworking approved for new wall sign in Hinsdale

The Hinsdale Historic Preservation Commission on May 6 approved a wall sign permit for Enclave Coworking at 29 East 1st Street.
Dan Johnson, general manager of Enclave Coworking, said the commission previously approved a blade sign and that the new wall sign is a redesign intended to be “a lot cleaner.” He said the sign will be metal and will match the black metal aesthetic of other alleyway blade signs. “Second time's a charm here,” Johnson said.
Commissioners asked whether the sign would include materials beyond metal and whether its attachment method would be visually intrusive. Johnson responded that the sign is metal and will be adhered cleanly to the gateway so it would not show straps or other fastenings present in the earlier design.
A committee member moved to approve the sign permit; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote. The commission recorded unanimous support from the four voting commissioners present.
Construction on the Enclave Coworking space is already underway; Johnson told the commission he expects to open midsummer and thanked the panel for its approval.
The commission’s next regular meeting will consider other pending business, including a separate sign-code update not reached at this session.
