Miss Giroux told the board the jail has been in Mr. Jones’ possession and would be placed under the care of the city recorder and historic commission for display within the planned library/city hall campus. Former Mayor George Jones spoke about the jail’s local history, explained how it came into his possession and expressed a desire to see it preserved and displayed.
Karen Tomlinson, chair of the historic commission, and a presenter (Corinne) described the Founders Day / home tour route, which includes Rippavilla Plantation, Grace Episcopal Church and five private homes in and around Spring Hill. Organizers noted some tour properties fall outside city limits but emphasized their cultural connection to the community. The historic commission requested board support and said they will coordinate logistics and safety considerations for visitors. The board approved acceptance of the donation 9–0.
