Commission continues Historic Preservation Advisory Committee work, supports ordinance revisions

The Dunedin City Commission voted unanimously on May 7 to continue work with the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee and to allow the committee additional time to finalize revisions to a proposed historic‑preservation ordinance and the certificate‑of‑appropriateness (COA) process.
Planner Frances Leong Sharp presented the committee's recent accomplishments and said the committee has designated 26 landmark properties and processed 11 COA applications. Vice chair Ellie McCook summarized three grant‑funded surveys completed over the last three years and said the committee simplified the COA process to encourage more resident applications.
Leong Sharp noted the committee will review a final draft on May 14, present to the Local Planning Agency on June 10, and return to the commission on July 9 and Aug. 6 for additional commission review. Commissioners praised the committee’s work and emphasized the voluntary nature of designations for property owners. The motion to continue the committee’s timeline passed unanimously.
